beautiful shrine, beautiful walk - I really recommend not to do this shrine walk in sneakers, I am a fool and I was slipping so much - the information centre across the streets provides maps and rental boots (I wish I had rented the boots)

One of the most beautiful places in Nagano. There was heavy snow, and that was fun to walk throughout the way until we reached the shrine. The shrine on the top is usually closed during winters. But the pathway is beautiful

The shrine is so beautiful, as expected from a Japanese shrine. It is surrounded by cedar trees that are definitely older than us. I recommend bringing friends when coming here, especially in winter, cuz some places may be challenging. The only minus is the toilet. It's not as clean as other Japanese toilets.

Direct bus from Nagano Station, numbers 70 and 73 will get you there. Then it's a hike up to the shrines and the giant Cedar tree forest pathway. The hike was done in snow today, and while most of it is relatively flat, parts are quite icy and slippery. Despite this, it was definitely worth the effort. Majestic and awe-inspiring are two phrases i have to use to describe the experience. Wonderful photo opportunities. Walking back from the giant cedar trees, there is a lovely Soba restaurant, and the meals really warmed the body on a snowy day. Wear appropriate warm clothes, however you can hire boots at the tourist information centre where the bus drops you off. Great cafe around the corner of the ingo center called Lamp Cafe, run by a fantastic old fellow who makes fantastic coffee and has a wide range of snacks. The loop bus leaves from opposite the Nagano Station at bus stop 7. You can buy the round ticket at the bus stop. Well worth the effort going to the shrines and cedar forest pathway.

It’s a very winding road going up the mountain to the shrines. They have five shrines to visit but was only able to visit the middle shrine (3rd) on this trip. The 3rd shrine has some very old cedar trees and a waterfall in the back area. It is very much a power spot! I will definitely be back to visit the rest of the shrines.
