This is an amazing little zoo (free entrance) worth visiting if you have kids and some time to spare after visiting the castle. The animals are indeed kept within rather small enclosures but they seem well taken care of. It was pretty quiet when I visited during lunch time on a weekday so you can actually spend time to look at the animals up close without having to jostle with crowds. I enjoyed the experience.

As the other reviews, the animals in this zoo all looks very sad to be caged. I hope more can be done for this place.

The zoo is free and I fully understand that children and families love to see the animals. Also the area with the castle 🏯 is beautiful. So why only 2⭐? It is because the way the zoo is designed it is much to small for the animals. Also there is a lot of concrete and it does not resemble at all their natural living environment. Most animals are rather passive and with dead eyes or show unnatural behavior. Please consider reducing the number of animals and limit the zoo to small ones, which are happy is medium sized cages. Try to simulate the natural environment as good as possible. In my humble opinion the zoo in Zurich, Switzerland does a good job. Maybe it can function for some inspiration. Thank you for your consideration 🙏🙏🙏

This 'zoo' is horrible. The smallest enclosures I've ever seen. A cockatoo in a metal cage with metal feeding containers alone, no tree branches nothing. This zoo is on par with Puket zoo when I went 15 years ago. Penguins, horses, goats everything. If I were home I would be contacting authorities reporting animal abuse. It's a sad place to visit 😢

Little free zoo located in the Wakayama Castle grounds. Small enclosures and animals looked very hot in the summer’s 35C heat. Could do with some investment and an animal welfare check.
