Yamauchi Shrine is located in Takashocho, Kochi City. As the shrine is dedicated to the successive lords of the Tosa domain, it is a must-visit shrine for those who have watched taiga dramas such as ``Kumei ga Tsuji'' and ``Ryomaden.'' The forest along the approach is a natural environment conservation area, so you can really feel the nature. The trefoil oak crest of the Yamauchi family can be seen throughout the building, and I was very excited to see the bronze statue of Yamauchi Do, one of the four wise princes of the end of the Edo period, located across from the main hall. The shrine office was closed because it was after 5 o'clock, but when it was open you could get a stamp. There is a paid parking lot at the entrance of the approach. In Mamoru Hosoda's film ``The Dragon and the Freckled Princess,'' the view from the Kagami River Promenade shows the forest of Yamauchi Shrine on the opposite bank, so this shrine may also be considered a sacred place.

You can visit the shrine for free from early in the morning. Although the building is not large, the garden is large, and the torii gate and trees in the garden are covered with moss, giving it a dignified appearance. It may have been the time of day, but it was a quiet and mysterious place.

[Goshuin: Yes] Yamauchi Shrine is located in Takajo-cho, Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture. It is said to have been founded in 1935 (Showa 9), but it is said that it originally started as Fujinami Shrine, which was built within Kochi Castle, where the first and second feudal lords and the wives of the first feudal lords were enshrined. Ta. In 1871 (Meiji 4), Toyonori, the last lord of the Tosa domain, founded Yamauchi Shrine on the current site of Fujinami Shrine's Otabisho, enshrining the spirits of the 3rd to 14th lords. In 1933, a new shrine building was built at Fujinami Shrine to enshrine the 15th and 16th lords of the domain, and the 3rd to 14th lords of Yamauchi Shrine. Both shrines were destroyed in 1945 (Showa 7) due to the Pacific War, and the shrine buildings were rebuilt in 1970 (Showa 45) and Fujinami Shrine was enshrined with Yamauchi Shrine, making it the shrine where all the successive lords of the Tosa domain were enshrined. . Later, in 1990 (Heisei 2), three shrines, Kumano, Kasuga, and Sumiyoshi, which fit within Kochi Castle, were enshrined within the precincts and became the current Yamauchi Shrine. The first lord of the domain, Lord Kazutoyo, the 15th Lord Toyoshigekou, and the 16th Lord Toyonori, played an important role not only in Tosa but also in Japan. He also appears in many novels and taiga dramas as a great character. Although it is within the precincts, it is well-maintained, and just walking along the lush green approach to the shrine gives you a pleasant and refreshing feeling.
