This temple in Yokohama Chinatown houses the widely revered warrior Guan Yu. This famous general from the History of the Three Kingdoms was later deified and is the primary figure of worship at this temple.

We only visited this temple from the outside (you need to pay a ticket to enter). It is very small and, even just from the outside, it already shows its great beauty. There are numerous details of the Thaoist culture, as well as beautiful gold decorations almost everywhere. It was nice to be able to contemplate the sound of its silence and the smell of its incense, in a special atmosphere.

First of all, it's not a Shinto Shrine nor a Buddhist temple. It's a Taoist temple dedicated to a few Chinese gods. It's a small temple with wonderful intricate carvings and designs. And like most temples which should not be for profit, it's free to visit and enter. It's a must-stop if you're visiting Yokohama Chinatown.

A beautiful Buddhist shrine in Yokohama Chinatown. Admission is free and you’re not obligated to buy anything.

Beautiful vibrant temple with friendly English speaking staff. They showed us how to place the incense at five points and then pray to five different areas. It was a wonderful experience!
