While strolling around Matsushiro, I visited the shrine to pray for my grandson's entrance into high school. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Sakuma Shozan's martyrdom, a plan to build a shrine was promoted under the leadership of Mr. Hideo Yokota, and with the cooperation of the local community, all municipalities in the prefecture, all schools, and the Shinano Educational Association, the establishment was approved in 1930, and the construction was approved in 1939. It was founded as a prefectural company on November 3, 2013. It's amazing, isn't it? It's a learning experience. Also, since the people who played a central role in the Meiji Restoration were students of Sakuma Shozan Sensei, we must not forget that he is the man who built Japan into what it is today, and we must not let him fade away. You can understand that it also appears in the prefectural song "Shinano no Kuni". That's right, I prayed for my grandson to pass the exam and bought some "passing pencils" 😅 May it benefit you🤗

It was a nicer shrine than I expected. The god of wisdom and learning, enshrining Sakuma Shozan, who also appears in the Nagano prefectural song Shinano no Kuni. There were also a lot of votive tablets. I was surprised to see so many students at Shozan's private school. Kaishu Katsu, Ryoma Sakamoto...the names of Ishin patriots at the end of the Edo period... I also found it unusual that the base of the torii gate was made of copper.

A shrine in Matsushiro that enshrines Sakuma Shozan, a thinker from the end of the Edo period. It's a beautiful shrine, but I'm glad it's not very popular. Sakuma Shozan is said to be from Matsushiro.

A shrine dedicated to Sakuma Shozan, a thinker at the end of the Edo period. The grounds were simply beautiful, with flowers blooming beautifully and fallen leaves being cleaned up.😊 There is also Shozan's former residence.

There is a statue of Torasaburo Kobayashi, famous for his teachings on 100 sacks of rice, and as a citizen of Niigata Prefecture, I am grateful to the people of Matsushiro. I'm sure people in Nagaoka City would be impressed if they saw it, but I don't think they would know about it. I think it would be a good idea to market it to Nagaoka City and get a lot of Nagaoka residents to come. I'm not a Nagaoka citizen, but I was moved when I saw this statue.
